Bio

I am a multidisciplinary artist and designer with a deep background in knit and print textile design, product development, and traditional and contemporary bookbinding. I believe that using exquisite craftsmanship, the human touch, and visual storytelling can foster life-enhancing connections to the products that surround us.

My life-long love of making was ignited in the printmaking studio at St Olaf College. After graduating with a dual major in English and studio art, I went on to study hand bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School, marrying my love for craft, process, and books. After spending my early career in the book conservation field, treating objects ranging from scrapbooks to WWII soldier diaries, I chose to pursue an MFA in textile design in order have a more visually creative career.

My unconventional background and varied experiences in a range of materials-based fields allows me to think creatively and approach projects from the perspective of a both a designer and an artist. My time spent as a bookbinder and conservation technician influences the way I think about the longevity and functionality of the products I design.

A Little More Like Water is a collection of knitwear and print apparel developed as a way to encourage and celebrate communal grieving. It is inspired by five specific stories of parental loss and uses the ocean as a metaphor for the way grief lingers in our bodies long after the initial experience of loss. The knits were developed on domestic and industrial knitting machines, and fabrics are both digitally printed and hand painted.

A knit textile collection that evokes the power and chaos of the ocean and attempts to conjure that environment when I couldn’t physically visit it as I healed from a broken ankle. Swatches were programmed in M1 Plus and knit on a Stoll flatbed knitting machine.
